Meet the instructor

Irene Perrett

Irene Perrett. MA, Cert Ed., BHS IV SM.


Irene’s involvement with rescue dogs resonates with her long-held passion to better understand human and more-than-human relations. She has a background in equine education, contributing to the development of equine courses and is a Pony Club AH assessor. Irene works with horses and their guardians to engender an empathetic and educated approach. It was a Romanian rescue dog who sparked her desire to research and study canines, with qualifications in teaching, training, bereavement, animal cruelty and well-being. She gained an Advanced Diploma in Canine Psychology and Behaviour in 2018, an Anthrozoology MA in 2022 and is currently a PhD student at the University of Exeter. She has a particular interest in the well-being and rights of human and non-human animals, and engendering cohesive interspecies relationships. Irene lives with and fosters Romanian rescue dogs and can often be found walking with them over Exmoor.

AIM Qualification Level 3 Diploma in Canine Care, Behaviour & Welfare 

This qualification has been designed to provide learners with in-depth knowledge and understanding of the evolution, behaviour and training of domestic canines, including their care and welfare in kennels, home and boarding care. This qualification also includes learning around canine handling and transportation and the law relevant to the care and welfare of canines, particularly those who may be traumatised.

Human Canine Interactions

The aim of the course is to provide learners with an academically challenging learning experience that enhances their work in the role of canine behaviourist or dog trainer. It is designed to build upon an existing knowledge of canine behaviour and human interactions but provide a much greater depth of understanding, that goes way beyond the subject matter. The course introduces learners to a more holistic and global perspective of human/dog interaction and encourages critical analysis of theory and personal experience.

Working with Reactive Dogs

This course is for the trainer, behaviourist or keen guardian, who wants to develop their skills of working with or managing reactive dogs.
